Applying Military Leadership
Lessons to Your Business

Thomas M. Crea

Throughout my military career, I always considered my primary purpose as a leader was to serve others by coaching, mentoring, and helping them succeed and grow.

I'm Tom Crea, President and CEO of Blackhawk Consulting Group.

Today, I provide leadership training and coaching to aspiring individuals who want to become successful leaders. In my free time, I enjoy coaching middle- and high-school basketball.

Coaching is my passion and I look forward to working with you; the leader who is seeking to achieve quality results by serving their organization and staff best.

The military has provided great examples throughout history.

Have you ever wondered why?

  • The military excels in leadership training
  • Business schools throughout the nation recognize the military’s strength in leadership training
  • Corporate America seeks Junior Military Officers to fill their ranks

What is the secret?

Military leaders must set the example and live the corporate values.

In the U.S. Army, every solider is expected to follow a set of beliefs known as Army Values, but those in charge are expected to live them.

Your organization will be well-served by applying sound values, similar to those within this acronym, L-D-R-S-H-I-P:

  • Loyalty
  • Duty
  • Respect
  • Selfless service
  • Honor
  • Integrity
  • Personal courage

Values are extremely important: the key is to set the example and live your values so that you attract followers.

Why I Coach

I specialize in developing leaders because I want to share valuable lessons I learned.

My leadership journey began in arguably the best training program available, the U.S. Army's on college campus program known as the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC).

The military is known for providing excellent training and I felt privileged to be a part of a unique team while learning from some of the best leaders in the world. At the end of my military career, I had the honor of running a similar ROTC program as my final assignment.

I found this experience very rewarding as we guided students through our leadership training exercises in as little as two years.

My professional background and qualifications

My qualifications include a career serving in various leadership and teaching positions, two Masters Degrees in Computer Science and Political Science, and Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) and Certified Employee Retention Specialist (CERS) certifications.

My focus is on helping others achieve their personal and professional goals. Whether coaching basketball for middle- and high-school students, serving as an advisory board member of a non-profit organization, or coaching individuals like you, my goal is to see you, your team, and your organization succeed.

How I Can Help

I have been developing leaders for more than 25 years. My combined passion as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot who loved flying and working with people inspired me to start Blackhawk Consulting Group in 2007 to share lessons in leadership.

My tag line, "Take Off to New Possibilities," reflects my love of flight and belief in continuous self-improvement for leaders who strive to best serve their organization.

My desire is to help you reach your goals. To learn more about a values-based approach to leadership, contact me and begin to apply leadership principles that will make a difference.
